Ooh. The corny-ness! The badness of the puns! Muwahaha.

Ahem. Yes. For those unfamiliar, that is a slightly squashed rendering of a bass clarinet. It's made from carved, fondant-covered cake; music sheets are also fondant, the rest is buttercream and cake. This was the first time I'd tried carving three-dimensional shapes out of the cake itself. Really happy with the end result, although I think we're still vaccuming crumbs out of the kitchen floorboards...

Duddeee, I don't even know how you make the cakes you do O__o Where to start? Also, can you buy that fondant stuff somewhere? :S I've seen people use it a lot on cake shows and such so now I'm curious :3 I think they just make it from scratch, though. Anyway, this is amazinggg ;D You've got a real talentt! :)

Thank you so much for all the comments! I'm glad you like the cakes. :)

You can definitely buy fondant. The easiest to get that I know of is the Wilton brand, which you could probably find at an arts craft store like Michael's or ACMoore. It's usually about $7 for a 24 oz. package. However, if you're looking for a better quality or flavor, I'd go with either Duff's buttercream fondant (also sold at Michael's) or, the really good stuff, Satin Ice. There might be other brands, but those are the only ones I've worked with!

You're so very welcome. ^^ Sorry for the late reply.. so busy! D:

Ohh wow. You really know your stuff, don't you? I didn't actually think Michael's would sell such stuff but I'm not surprised. (: Awesome, thanks for all the great info! ^^ I appreciate it, although I doubt I'd be able to make a cake with it, hahaha :]

Hahaha, yes--Michael's is getting some pretty good stuff recently, which is nice.

Admittedly, covering cakes is probably the hardest (in my opinion) thing to do with fondant (it tends to tear at the corners). But if you are looking for little edible decorations, it's not unlike Play-Doh in its sculptability. :) Great for toppers.

Oh I love the title. I also like saying Kick Brass haha. That is one hella awesome cake. I'd love to have something like for my birthday, except it kind of sucks because having worked so hard on something it gets eaten. :|

As far as the making-and-being-eaten part goes, I rather like that aspect. Someone gets a completely unique, one-of-a-kind cake, and I know it's going to go to good use. :)

What instrument do you play?
